What is Koi Betta Fish?

 

Beautiful fish called kois are prized for their marbled coloring. However, enthusiasts who keep aquariums at home could find their size a problem. Koi bettas are an option that blends bettas' modest stature with the beauty of koi fish.

A koi betta is not a cross between a betta fish and a koi carp. A betta, not a koi, is a koi betta. On the other hand, Koi bettas have a marble-like coloring resembling that of koi fish.

Bettas with koi do not belong to a distinct species from other bettas. They're still very broke (also known as Siamese fighting fish). They have been developed, however, to have koi fish-like colors in a smaller, more aquarium-friendly size.

Koi betta fish are often white with patches of different colors, such as black, red, yellow, or orange. There are, however, fancier variations that also have additional color flaws, such as blue or green.

Koi Betta fish: Male and Female

Koi betta fish males and females differ from conventional bettas in the same ways. However, you can discover that male koi bettas display more vivid color than females.

With their elaborately flared fins, females frequently have a more streamlined appearance than males. They have broader bodies, shorter fins, and a tendency to be shorter than their male betta fish counterparts.

Size of Koi

Koi bettas are the same size as conventional bettas and can grow to 3 inches. However, obtaining a koi plakat is more likely to be about 2-3 inches long, closer to the smaller end of the betta fish size range. Koi bettas don't grow as big as the koi carp, after which they were named. Koi carp can grow to a maximum length of 3 feet instead of just 3 inches.

Temperament of Kois

The Siamese fighting fish, known as bettas, are known for their extreme territoriality and aggression. The temperament of a koi betta is identical to that of other bettas. The intense mating pursuits that might occur when housing a single male and single female koi betta together can potentially be fatal.

A koi betta may get aggressive if new fish are added to its aquarium because it may feel its domain is being invaded. Instead, you should add a koi betta to an established tank to make it feel like the new kid on the block and less like it controls the entire tank.

Tank Requirements

Bettas that are kept alone are ideal for nano tanks. They are among the greatest fish for small desktop tanks because they do well alone and don't require much space. The following tank conditions should be met:

1.      Ph: 6.0 to 8.0

2.      The hardness of water: soft water

3.      The minimum tank volume is 3 gallons.

4.      Best temperature for betta is 75° to 84° Fahrenheit. Since bettas are tropical fish, the stress in unheated aquariums shortens their lifespan and increases their susceptibility to disease.

5.      Koi bettas enjoy tanks with plants. Plants provide them with a place to hide when kept alongside other fish. A nice choice is floating plants like duckweed.

6.      Water movement: To imitate their natural habitat, filters should only supply a small amount of water flow. In nano tanks, frequent water changes are sufficient in place of filters.
